Following the puzzling encounter with the wraiths, Ooka and Torrin headed back to town for supplies and a rendezvous with Torrin's cousin, Lan. Sha-Ashar set up a barricade on the road to discourage any other travelers that may come up the road. He and the others then sat back and began waiting for trouble to find them, reasoning that whoever had killed the travelers and spawned the wraiths would be back eventually.

It was twilight before anything interesting happened, but they were rewarded for their patience. A wight and a group of zombies came meandering down the road. Despite their decreased numbers, the adventurers were easily able to dispatch them. They found 60 gold and a Potion of Healing in the wight's clothing.

They decided to venture up the road to see what they could find. The road was heavily forested, but Sulik spotted something small moving through the trees. He summoned his spirit companion near the source of the sound. Through his companion's eyes, he saw two dark halfling-like creatures. They questioned the spirit, and when it wouldn't respond, they attacked. A wraith swept down out of the trees and joined the fight. After a long and heated battle, though, the adventurers were victorious - and they took one of the dark ones hostage.
